Educational Platform
The educational curriculum at MCHS follows the core subject matter standards set by the California Department of Education and the Common Core State Standards. Students are expected to learn the same course of study as students at the comprehensive high school. What is a continuation school?
Continuation school is an alternative means for students to receive their high school diploma. The instruction provided is based on the Common Core State Standards and helps prepare students to be proficient on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). Students in continuation high school are behind in credits for a multitude of reasons. The curriculum is sthe same as at a traditional high school and continuation students must take the same courses required for graduation. Students receive guidance and career counseling. The staff is able to modify their instruction to meet individual needs in a smaller classroom environment. Students are encouraged to become more responsible for all their choices, as they develop this skill they begin to mature and may find more success in their lives.
The continuation school teacher is able to step out of the box of traditional education and try a variety of strategies that meet the individual learning style of each student. Students in this alternative setting have the opportunity to work in cooperative settings and if they choose move at at a faster pace helping them to get back on track with their graduation class. There are a variety of electives and unique opportunities for students to prepare them for life.
We are here to provide a stable support system for those who require a different approach to education. Failure is not an acceptable option. At Monroe High School, we can achieve great things when we work together!
